Another Thursday, another massive offensive showing. Is it just me or have the TNF games been the most interesting to watch all year? The Steelers, coming in at (7-2), hosted the Titans (6-3) in an important out of conference matchup that surely has playoff implications. With the Steelers having a pretty comfortable lead in the AFC North, with the Ravens 3 games behind, this was a must win for the Titans, who before this game were tied for first with the defensive juggernaut that is the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC South. Both the Steelers and Titans came into this game pretty healthy. The Titans Corey Davis, the 5th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, made it onto the field after being banged up with a hamstring injury for most of the season. On top of that, it seems a healthy Demarco Murray was able to suit up for Tennessee as well.
Lets not beat around the bush though, this was the Antonio Brown show last night. AB finished with 10 receptions for 144 yards and 3 TD. Absolutely monster game out of Brown. On the Steelers first drive, Big Ben threw a 50 yard bomb on a free play that AB went up and caught in the end zone. After the Steelers took the lead, they never looked back. Big Ben was just 1 yard short of eclipsing 300 passing yards, but did finish with 4 TD’s and 0 interceptions or fumbles. Great performance for a team that had some question marks a few weeks ago after Big Ben’s below average play. Martavis Bryant finished with a stat line of 2 receptions for 30 yards and no Td, JuJu Smith-Schuster had 4 receptions for 47 yards and no TD, TE Jessie James had 5 receptions for 21 yards and a TD, and Le’veon Bell finished with 12 rushes for 46 yards, 9 receptions for 57 yards and no TD. On top of all that, it was a great game for the Steelers defense and special teams. PIT’s kicker, Chris Boswell went 4/4 in FG and 4/4 in extra points, with the longest FG being 50 yards. The Steelers defense also showed up last night. Only 17 points allowed from their side of the ball, the Steelers were able to pick off QB Marcus Mariota 4 times in this game and get a blocked FG on Titans K Ryan Succop . Which brings us to the Titans, who had a rough night to say the least.
Mariota had a very inconsistent night. Although he did throw for 306 yards and rushed for a TD, he threw 4 picks. The two players for the Titans who was able to put up a good game were WR Rishard Mathews with a finish of 5 receptions for 113 yards and a TD (available in over 30% of leagues), and TE Delanie Walker with 6 receptions for 92 yards. Demarco Murray was only able to rush for 10 yards on 8 carries, and Derrick Henry rushed for 32 yards on 7 carries. A very quite game for both top tier running backs on the Titans. With Big Ben, AB, the defense and kicker playing like they did for the Steelers, there was no overcoming that for the Titans. The score ended with the Steelers defeating the Titans 40-17, a blowout by all standards. It seems the Steelers are finally getting hot at the right time, which means big fantasy implications down the stretch. This is an offense you want to own a piece of going down the stretch and entering the fantasy playoffs. The Titans also have a few players that could get going, including Corey Davis, Rishard Mathews and the running back duo of Murray and Henry. One things for sure though, if you played AB and Big Ben last night, congratulations on your week 11 victory!
